Chair of the IFAC Technical Committee 1.2 Adaptive and Learning Systems

After six rewarding years, my term as Chair of the International Federation of Automatic Control Technical Committee 1.2 on Adaptive and Learning Systems (2020–2026) has come to an end.

It has been a privilege to serve this community and to work alongside so many outstanding colleagues. I am deeply grateful to all TC members, collaborators, and friends who contributed their time, ideas, and enthusiasm throughout these years.

Among the highlights of this journey were our two flagship ALCOS workshops:

  • ALCOS 2022 in Casablanca, Morocco 🇲🇦
  • ALCOS 2025 in Mexico City, Mexico 🇲🇽

It was wonderful to see our community come together in two different parts of the world to exchange ideas and advance the field of adaptive and learning control.

Another special milestone was the recognition of two remarkable colleagues with the Adaptive and Learning Systems Lifetime Achievement Award:

  • Miroslav Krstic (2023)
  • Petros Ioannou (2025)

It was a privilege for our TC to celebrate their extraordinary and lasting contributions to our field.

One initiative that I am particularly proud of is the IFAC TC 1.2 Online Seminar Series (https://tc.ifac-control.org/1/2/online-seminar-series-for-ifac-tc-1-2-adaptive-learning-systems), which Bing Chu and I created together.

The mosaic below brings together the 15 outstanding speakers who generously contributed to the series over the years:

  • Miroslav Krstic
  • Tamer Basar
  • Martin Guay
  • John Ringwood
  • Magnus Egerstedt
  • Na Li
  • Denis Dochain
  • Romeo Ortega
  • Anuradha Annaswamy
  • Florian Dorfler
  • Alexander Fradkov
  • Anders Rantzer
  • Warren Dixon
  • Eric Rogers
  • Maria Prandini (IFAC President, 2026-2029).

It is now my great pleasure to pass the baton to Bing Chu, who will serve as Chair of IFAC TC 1.2 for the 2026–2029 term.

Having worked closely with Bing over these years, I look forward to seeing the new ideas and initiatives that will emerge under his leadership.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this six-year journey, and my very best wishes to Bing and the entire TC 1.2 community for the next chapter!
