CDC 2024 Workshop: Control and Adaptation: Imagine What’s Next

CELEBRATING A PIONEER AND MENTOR IN CONTROL SYSTEMS

This year marked the 60th birthday of a transformative figure in our field, Professor Miroslav Krstic of UC San Diego. The foundations of control systems have been expanded by his pioneering developments of adaptive nonlinear control, extremum seeking, PDE backstepping control, and predictors for delay systems. He has also dedicated 30 years to raising our field’s standards through editorship and mentoring the next generation.

To honor Krstic, his mentees organized a workshop entitled “Control and Adaptation: Imagine What’s Next—Celebrating the 60th Birthday of Miroslav Krstic” at the 63rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC 2024) in Milan, Italy (https://www.insync-lab.org/cdc2024-session). A 10-minute video of his thanks to each of the workshop speakers is at this link (https://youtu.be/M1X6eDJCaAY?si=QaBtoF8x1qJO6nKm).

Artificial intelligence was used by several speakers to roast Krstic, including a final surprise, an uproarious AI-generated 2-minute blues anthem that makes good-natured fun of his research, service, and guitar hobby (https://youtu.be/_uPCvoy56_8?si=Sd10IaDByBGvpWcW).
